Wellbeing
There can not be an all-inclusive definition of wellbeing, due to the uniqueness and individuality of each child in every classroom.
Each of you and every single one of your children, will have your own personal beliefs or ideas on what makes up someone's wellbeing. These ideas will vary in importance due to contrasting; life experiences and personal values.
Author of 'Children and social and emotional learning in schools", attempts to define wellbeing;
"Feeling and thinking, becoming and living, and more make up being. Wellbeing has diverse aspects.
Rather than set up a precisely delimited, narrow single notion of wellbeing, and then try to police its ‘correct’ usage,
we will do better to see wellbeing as an umbrella notion"
(Children social and emotional wellbeing in schools 2012, pg. 26).

Viewing wellbeing as an 'umbrella notion' requires learning managers to create and utilise a wide range of resources, in order to cater to each individual child's specific needs.

“Wellbeing is a life-long process of moving towards enhancing your physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and environmental well-being”
(McKinley, 2013).
(McKinley, 2013).
According to research enhancing and focusing on these six aspects will benefit your child and help them to achieve five core competencies; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.

The importance of students’ mental health and wellbeing is articulated within the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) framework. ACARA states,
“Students develop personal and social capability as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively.
The personal and social capability involves students in a range of practices including recognising and regulating emotions, developing empathy for and understanding of others, establishing positive relationships, making responsible decisions, working effectively in teams and handling challenging situations constructively”
(ACARA, 2014).

A well rounded sense of wellbeing is established through the implementation of social and emotional learning. Social and emotional learning instills life long skills into children, which will benefit them as they become vital members of society.
